Transportation Planning Manager City of Minneapolis MINNEAPOLIS, MN
This presentation will share how Minneapolis has used equity-related data and equitable engagement strategies to develop and advance transportation actions. This includes prioritizing equity priority areas in project selection, expanding affordable transportation options, and recognizing and working to address historical harms from transportation decisions. We will also highlight the importance of making strong, tangible goals to guide the planning work, and the work that comes out of the plan – such as mode shift, vehicle miles travelled and greenhouse gas reduction goals.
This presentation will cover actionable steps Minneapolis is taking to expand transportation choices and improve traffic safety. We’ll share lessons learned developing and implementing the Transportation Action Plan and Vision Zero Action Plan. Some specific examples include: • Strategies for equitable engagement for transportation planning; • Moving away from traditional measures such as level of service to more holistic metrics of community benefit; • Building support internally, with community members, and with agency partners; • Steps to make sure transportation plans are effectively and efficiently implemented; and • How to communicate and keep accountable to actions in adopted plans.
