This bike tour will cross the Mississippi River via the newly renovated Third Ave Bridge and take a tour of NE Minneapolis's old and new multi-modal infrastructure as we pass through the nation's #1 art's district.
The 102-year-old Hwy 65/Third Ave. Bridge over the Mississippi River was deteriorating and required repairs to continue to safely transport people and goods into and out of downtown Minneapolis. One of the challenges was how do keep the historic nature of the bridge, but rebuild it to serve modern transportation purposes. The Third Ave. Bridge project preserved the historic structure and artistic railings while creating a safer and more comfortable experience for people walking and biking. The bridge is representative of the Northeast Arts District and its ability to mesh together historic buildings and the arts.
Minneapolis showcases some of the Nation's best bicycling infrastructure. This bike tour will explore biking and walking infrastructure between Northeast Minneapolis and Downtown Minneapolis. Safe and comfortable multi-modal infrastructure is an important part of a more inclusive transportation system. We'll explore how diverse communities are connected to Northeast's unique destinations.
