Andrea Brown has served as the Executive Director of the Michigan Association of Planning (MAP), the Michigan Chapter of the American Planning Association, since 2004, and as its Information Director prior to that. MAP is one of the largest of APA’s chapters with nearly 4,000 members and serves professional community planners and elected and appointed land use decision makers like planning commissions zoning boards and elected local leaders.
Ms. Brown is responsible for the development of MAP’s land use and planning policy; for advancing MAP’s legislative agenda in Lansing; for advocacy and lobbying efforts; for developing relationships and partnerships, forming coalitions; and working closely with other land use leaders, state agencies, policy makers and non-profits. Brown is the chief fundraiser for MAP and has successfully secured more than $3 million in grants, sponsorships and contributions since 2004.
Prior to joining the Chapter, she held professional planning positions in both the private and public sectors. She has undergraduate and graduate degrees in urban planning, is an AICP credentialed professional, and a registered lobbyist.
