Jon A. West, AICP, directs the State of Georgia’s Community Development Division within the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA). Originally hired by DCA to assist with public outreach and education for local comprehensive planning, in the subsequent 18 years at his agency Jon has progressed through positions of increasing scope and responsibility. The division he currently directs encompasses Georgia’s Offices of: Downtown Development; Building Codes & Industrialized Buildings; Planning, Research & Geoanalytics; and, Service & Volunteerism (AmeriCorps). Planning programs under his purview include local and regional comprehensive planning, developments of regional impact, capital improvement planning, development impact fees, community development research and analysis, and GIS. He has designed training and presented on a variety of topics to professional associations, local governments, and allied organizations throughout his state. Jon oversees four direct reports, a staff of over 30 professionals, and a budget of over $17.5M.
Mr. West has a BA in political science and an MS in rural and small town planning. He is on the Board of the Georgia Planning Association, volunteers with several non-profits, and has served on the DeKalb County Planning Commission for over a decade where he is currently the vice-chair.
