Sarah Neilson is Chief of Policy and Long-Range Planning in the Environment and Planning Division at NYC Parks. Her portfolio includes climate resiliency planning, waterfront open space development, and improving and expanding the city’s greenway network. Her team carried out the Destination: Greenways! conceptual study, which has yielded $50M in capital funding for greenway improvements. With agency partners, her team produced Design and Planning for Flood Resiliency: Guidelines for NYC Parks.
Sarah brings a broad cross-agency perspective to her role in Planning at NYC Parks; previously she was Administrator of Washington Square Park in the Operations division, and senior project manager in the Capital division. She has a background in non-profit organizations and public programming, and served as a member of Seattle’s Board of Park Commissioners. Sarah has a B.A. from Bard College and a Masters in City Planning from MIT.
