Ward Lyles is Associate Professor of Urban Planning and Indigenous Studies at the University of Kansas. He teaches courses in sustainable land use planning, research methods, and introductory courses in planning, all with a close eye on engaging with active learning and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). His research investigates local, collaborative efforts to reduce risks from natural hazards like hurricanes and climate change impacts. Before returning to university for his academic career, Lyles' professional experiences included non-profit leadership, state and local policy analysis and public affairs, and local politics and civic service.
