Planner
San Francisco Recreation and Parks
San Francisco, California
Brian Stokle is a Planner at the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department who focuses on park and transportation planning. Brian has worked multiple projects converting park streets into promenades, including leading the creation of the Great Highway Pilot Project, and converting Shelley Drive into Shelley Promenade in McLaren Park. He also was part of the large interdepartmental team that created the JFK Promenade in Golden Gate Park. In addition, Brian also focuses on collecting data of promenade usage using electronic and manual methodologies, as well as planning for making park streets slower, safer, and more fun for people visiting our parks or passing through. Brian's other work has included work on San Francisco's first climate change adaptation project, and is beginning a city/federal effort on dune restoration.
Brian is a resident of San Francisco, where he lives with his family, and where he campaigns for a new city flag for San Francisco. In 2022, he led an online city flag tournament, in which Duluth, MN came in 4th place. Brian believes that city flags can play a larger role in fostering civic pride, community conhesion, and working together to make our cities better places to live.
