Special Projects Manager

Christine Viña, AIA, serves as a Special Projects Manager for VIA Metropolitan Transit in San Antonio, Texas, and focuses on capital project/grants management, infrastructure and facility design review, strategic planning initiatives, and manages the Transit Oriented Communities and Art in Transit programs. Prior to VIA, she was the TOD Principal Planner for Capital Metro, a Special Projects planner with the City of San Antonio and the Executive Director of the Southtown Mainstreet program. A graduate of the Texas Tech University School of Architecture, she spent her early career days living, working, and playing in the transit-rich, urban environments of Washington, D.C., and San Francisco, CA. She was a former AIA San Antonio president, currently serves on the University of Texas at San Antonio - School of Architecture & Planning Advisory Council and is a tri-chair of the American Public Transit Association - Planning & Program Development TOD Subcommittee. As an architect, urban planner, and preservation advocate, she also volunteers time with neighborhood residents, on design review, preservation, urban development, infrastructure issues, and the nexus between transportation and land use, in the context of a sunbelt, car-centric city that is slowly transitioning toward a more equitable and sustainable future.
