Meet Gewel Richardson, a dedicated urban planner committed to building vibrant, sustainable communities. As the inaugural member of the Alabama A&M University Alumni Under 40 Champions and a member of the Champion Council for Communities in Schools of Henry County, Gewel brings expertise in community-based planning, project management, policy, and program development.
With a Bachelor of Science in Urban Planning from Alabama A&M University and dual master's degrees in engineering and science, specializing in Sustainable Smart Cities from the University of Birmingham and Staffordshire University, Gewel boasts academic achievements that shape her journey. Before joining Michael Baker International as a Hazard Mitigation Planner, Gewel gained experience in local government planning and zoning departments in the Metro Atlanta area, Jackson County, OR, and FEMA regions. Her diverse project portfolio includes comprehensive plan updates, neighborhood revitalization plans, zoning ordinance rewrites, downtown strategic plans, community engagement initiatives, wildfire recovery efforts, and mitigation trainings.
Gewel excels in communicating with community stakeholders, using presentations to bring projects to life and ensure alignment with community needs. Gewel's dedication to creating inclusive, resilient urban environments makes her a valuable asset in pursuing sustainable and equitable urban development.
