Kurt Howard is a Planner with the City of Hopkins. He is inspired by the power of collaborative planning and visioning to guide incremental changes to contribute to community-defined goals over time. In his role with the City of Hopkins, Kurt contribtues to a wide breadth of planning focus areas, including zoning and permitting, community development, transportation, and sustainability. He manages the City's Facade Improvement Program which offers matching funds to downtown businesses to catalyze investments in properties that enhance the pedestrian and historic character of the district. He serves as the staff lead of the Hopkins Energy Action Team which is developing the City's first ever Energy Action Plan to define and achieve the City's goals for energy efficiency and renewable energy. He assists the City Planner in the administration of the recently updated and modernized Development Code. He also leads the City's multimodal transportation planning efforts through collaboration with the City's Engineering Division, partner agencies, and robust community engagement. He is a graduate of the Humphrey School of Public Affairs where his planning career began after he became enamored with the transformative impact of replacing his car with his bicycle and the bus to meet his commuting needs.
