Urban Planner

Michelle Lincoln, Urban Planner at City of Bloomington, prioritizes opportunities that use urban planning and environmental justice to improve the built environment, the political and social environment, and the quality of life for the people who live in the city and region where she lives and works. Urban planning has affected the lives of Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC), like herself, in detrimental ways; urban renewal alone decimated BIPOC communities across the nation, and land dispossession severed access to self-determination, wealth, and health. This and her experience as a Black woman motivates her desire to influence and practice equitable and just planning strategies. Michelle works to remediate big issues in the built environment (and beyond): accessible and equitable transportation, housing, green space, and food; better air quality; and energy and water justice. She hopes to be a leader, give support to others, and leave behind a legacy that will continue after she is gone. She currently serves as the MN APA Chapter Co-Chair for the Diversity and Equity Committee and as the Executive Board Student Representative at YEP! Youth Engagement Planning.
