Michael Brown, AICP is principal planner with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP), the metropolitan planning organization for northeastern Illinois. He facilitates the Agency’s efforts to collaborate with local governments and community organizations to address local and regional challenges. His work is inclusive of a MacArthur Foundation-supported program to build local government capacity to resolve increasingly complex issues. He received a Master of Urban Planning and Policy degree from UIC and a degree in Architecture from Hampton University (VA). He worked for consulting firms in Chicago before moving to the Washington DC area, where he worked with the Montgomery County Planning Department (MD) for over a decade. Before joining CMAP, Michael participated in a transatlantic research fellowship with the Robert Bosch Foundation in Germany. He has been active in the American Planning Association, earning his AICP credentials and serving in leadership roles in both the National Capital Area and Illinois Chapters. He is currently a member of APA’s Equity Diversity Inclusion committee and coordinates CMAP’s initiative of 'Integrating equity into planning practice.'
