Tackling Housing Affordability in Wisconsin's Fastest Growing County

Addressing housing affordability is a major challenge everywhere. While the issue is often tackled by individual cities, housing is regional and requires regional thinking. Strategic planning with a wide range of stakeholders and issues is difficult. The Regional Housing Strategy included 11 Housing Advisory Committee meetings to co-create a near-term plan to address housing issues.

This panel will provide concrete methods for bringing diverse regional stakeholders together, keeping them at the table over the long term, and providing a framework for implementation. We will discuss specific methods and tools including:

• Thorough + Inclusive Housing Advisory Committee Member Invitation Process (Representation across: urban to rural communities, age, race, income, public/private/non-profit sectors, backgrounds, areas of focus)
• Relationship Building Program
• Courageous Space Agreement - All voices are important and heard
• Facilitate Conversations around Race and Racism
• Creative Engagement Ideas and Tactics for Visual, Auditory, Reading+Writing, and Kinesthetic Learners to Bring Participants Along and Facilitate Relationship Building
• Continuous Feedback Loop (In Session Read-Out, Pre-Meeting Workbooks, Video Recordings, Social/E-Blasts)
• Knowledge Exchange (Strategy Spotlight Presentations, Data, Community Strategy Assessment, Regional community survey)
• Countywide Educational Campaigns (Increase awareness, Promote survey, launch Strategic Action Plan & implementation)
