Tour the biggest hits of Minneapolis: the standard-setting Midtown Greenway, chart-topper Sabo Bridge, beautiful Bryant Ave, heroic Hennepin Avenue, cult favorite Loring Greenway, downtown staple Nicollet Mall, and more! Enjoy these time-tested hits and fan favorites with advocates and staff.
The tour will cover a variety of bicycle treatments from grade-separated reuse (rail to trail), new construction bridges (Sabo, Bryant), decades-long staples (Loring Greenway, Nicollet Mall), and will touch on the newest and most innovative projects that have just started operation (Hennepin downtown, Bryant). Both the adaptive reuse and the new construction projects illustrate how Minneapolis has built out a connected network of bicycle facilities over several decades. Sometimes the results are not always intuitive; staff and advocates will share the challenges that arose and the compromises needed to advance meaningful work.
Minneapolis’ priority has been working to reduce the number of bicycle and pedestrian deaths and serious injuries. Indigenous people are 1% of the Minneapolis population but are 4% of people killed. Black residents are 19% of the population but are 26% of the victims. This tour will highlight safety interventions.
