This mobile workshop will take you on a journey from inception to Grand Opening of the region's premier small business center. Home to over 60 diverse small businesses, this special spot s transforming how economic development is done
This center is first of it's kind in the region, promising affordable, co-working space, technical assistance for businesses to scale, and fostering a strong sense of community. The city took the lead to develop the space after years of searching for development partners. The center offers state of the art, high designed office and retail space and is something the community can be proud of. Planners will learn how it was done by city government and how they too can make it happen in their communities. Most importantly, this center is developed with and by the community, engaging with local and diverse vendors all along the way.
This is a case study of a small business center that serves businesses owned by people of color. This strategy embodies economic development that recognizes past harm, economic exclusion and isolation, and seeks to undo that harm by purposefully creating a space for small businesses to start, grow and thrive.
