Dr. John Vick serves as Director of the Office of Primary Prevention at the Tennessee Department of Health, where he works to address the social and environmental factors that influence the health of communities, including land use planning, transportation, housing, greenspace, and economic development. His office administers the Healthy Built Environments state grant program and supports the department's seven regional Healthy Development Coordinator positions working in communities across the state to catalyze local health and built environment initiatives. He brings an interdisciplinary perspective to public health, with a background in applied research, chronic disease epidemiology, urban planning, and community development. John holds a Ph.D. in Applied Community Research from Vanderbilt University, and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He is a Salzburg Global Fellow in Equity and Urban Development, and an Urban Land Institute Health Leaders Fellow.
